Writing in the Galleries

Thursday, March 21, 2024
5:30 pm – 7:00 pm

Virtual Experience
via Zoom

Writers of all levels are invited to participate in this informal exploration of the Museum’s galleries as an impetus to writing. Monthly sessions are led by a visiting writer who begins with a conversation and prompt, partially inspired by works on view. Participants write on their own, then reconvene to share and comment on each other’s work. Please bring something on which to write.

In March, visiting writer-in-residence, Bahamian poet, essayist, and creative writing teacher Bernard Ferguson leads the session. Please note, this session will be via Zoom due to the writer being unable to travel this spring. Registrants for this session will receive a link in advance.

More about Bernard Ferguson:
Ferguson is currently working on a book of nonfiction, The Climate Sirens (Graywolf, 2024), about Hurricane Dorian, the effects of climate change on Small-Island Developing States, and how centuries of far-flung injustices and inequalities—have come to cause the climate crisis. They and their writing have been featured in numerous publications including The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, and The Paris Review among others. They teach creative writing at New York University and The New School.
